During the November 2008 local government election, the Peak's website morphed into a focal point of debate for, and about, the community. It was an exciting time for local political junkies and many of us felt lost when the election was over; we missed the discussion.

City of Powell River councillors had an interesting discussion at the February 2 committee-of-the-whole meeting about communications. I've posted the audio below so readers can listen to it in its entirety.

Civic Election Results
Powell River has a new mayor. Dave Formosa edged out incumbent Stewart Alsgard by 247 votes.

Committee and council meetings
In September, I decided to call a halt to live blogging from City of Powell River committee-of-the-whole and council meetings. Since then, I've had a number of people tell me how much they miss the blogs. While I appreciate the comments, I haven't changed my mind; it was the right decision for me.

Decision time
It's civic election time in communities throughout the province and politicians are deciding whether they are going to seek another term. Others are making up their minds if they are going to seek office for the first time or maybe try again if they have been defeated in the past.
