Sexting B.C. teacher handed 60-day jail term
Former Abbotsford high school teacher Martin Careen will serve a 60-day intermittent sentence for sending sexually explicit texts to a student. Careen, 52, was convicted last summer of invitation to sexual touching. He was sentenced Wednesday in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster.

Ogden scrap yard fire bill expected to be in seven-figure range
Final costs of a devastating scrap metal fire won’t be known for at least 30 days, but it are already estimated to be in the seven-figure range for both the city and the owner of a Calgary metal yard. The blaze smouldered for two weeks before it was doused May 10.

Police seek calendar store thief
City police have released recently obtained surveillance footage of a man possibly connected to a break-in at a calendar store around Christmas time in hopes the public can help locate him. The incident took place between Dec. 21 and 22, 2011, at the Calendar Club in TD Square at 317 7 Ave. S.W.

Calgary girl rushed to hospital after dog attack
A nine-year-old girl was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital after a dog bite in Calgary Tuesday night. Police and bylaw officers and EMS were called to Doverdale Mews S.E. at 7:30 after a girl was bitten by a dog on the lower leg.
