Many hands make light work
Sincere thanks and appreciation to the community members and volunteers from GUF who came to the historic park clean up on Sunday, April 22.

Drop-in needed
What this town really needs is a safe place for community members to socialize and hang out.
|
Heavy lifting
The Fort St. James Sustainability Group recently hosted the Great Bear Rainforest RAVE photo show at the Library.

In the lurch
Local resident expresses his frustration with the doctor shortage in the community.

Thanks from Afghanistan
Mike and I would like to thank all in town who signed the huge Christmas card for our son Erik

Order disorder?
Is there really a technicality which precludes Mr. Campbell's eligibility for this award? Are there really two sets of rules regarding this award? One for the Liberals and one for the rest of B.C.?

Pipelines and salmon
The sockeye have returned to Stuart Lake. This natural phenomenon, anticipated and celebrated from Sturgeon Point to Bulkley House, has been an annual event since the last ice age. For thousands of years the culture and well-being of the people of Northern B.C. have been inextricably linked to the return of the sockeye and all other Pacific salmon, and that relationship continues today.

One man's opinion
As the summer logging season has started, a month or more late for some, we see once again a lot of loads heading south of the Fort St. James Forest District.
Well, at least this is providing jobs, but it is not doing any good for Fort St. James, so I would like to see this change.
I believe, along with others that the B.C.T.S. as well as the licencees should be paying compensation to the municipality.

Petitions go up
Recently I volunteered for the task of distributing petitions around Fort St. James to request more mental health services in the Omineca Lakes area. More volunteers will circulate in the four other districts of Vanderhoof, Fraser Lake, Southside and Burns Lake.

Not worth the risk
So the next time you're jet boating, canoeing or fishing on the Stuart this summer remember the Kalamazoo River and the people that live along it's shore.
Tell John Rustad and Christy Clark that Northern Gateway is not worth the risk.
|
Flowers add a little something...
Many thanks to Beverley Playfair of the Window Box Flower Shop here in town who donated the two flats of petunias to beautify the Saint Patrick's Anglican Church, in appreciation of the work done with the Soup Kitchen.
|
How much risk is too much?
I was interested to read Nechako Lakes Liberal MLA John Rustad's comments regarding the Enbridge pipeline proposal in the Caledonia Courier of June 29, 2011.
Mr. Rustad is quoted as saying that the provincial government supports the pipeline if "it can be done safely for the environment."

Traffic concern
A couple of days ago I was in touch with Kevin Crook via e-mail voicing my concerns regarding the new wall structure at the Fort Information Centre.

Patients need patience: Local physician warns of a doctor shortage for the Fort
The Fort St. James Medical Clinic is expecting a physician shortage over the next four months especially for the first 4 weeks of March when there will only be 2 doctors in town. As a result, the physicians will be stretched to provide both clinical and emergency services during this time. Unfortunately, this will result in longer wait times for patients requiring non-urgent clinic appointments.

Murray Ridge Terrain Park a community effort
Although this is being called Phase I and I am sure there is a great deal of development left to be done, I also feel it is important to acknowledge the support and hard work that was done by people in our community prior to this Phase I implementation.
