Bee Gees tribute coming to Gibson Centre
ALLISTON - June 1 Tottenham's Sharman is taking on the role of Robin Gibb for Stayin' Alive - One Night of the Bee Gees at the Gibson Centre in Alliston. It's an act he's been doing for about 10 years. Although he's played the show internationally for years, this will be the first time he's played so close to home.

Firefighter saves man on Italy flight
ESSA - In the firefighting profession, there never really is such a thing as being off duty. Last September, 52-year-old Essa Township resident and Toronto Fire Services captain John Martin proved this during a return flight home from vacationing with his wife in Italy after taking charge in an urgent medical situation to help an elderly gentleman with sudden heart problems.

Alliston loses a truly great man
ALLISTON - Second World War veteran and an active community member John Lewis has passed away. Mr. Lewis died Saturday, May 12 at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston. He was 92.

Do something nice for your doctor May 28
Everyone likes to be appreciated and so, in 2005, the PRRC initiated a Physician Appreciation Day which is celebrated on the last Monday in May. Local municipalities officially declare the day and members of our community are encouraged to participate in whatever way they feel appropriate. In the past, people have sent cards, flowers, home-baked goods and in one case even given a golf game with a national celebrity.

Beware biting squirrels at park
On Friday my three-year-old grandson was playing in Riverdale Park. It has fabulous slides, swings and climbing apparatus and has been a favourite place to play. But, we will not be going there again.

Local HcHappy Day events raise over $19,000
Locally, our three McDonald's raised over $19,000 which will be donated directly to the new Toronto Ronald McDonald House. A great day, and a great community effort. Thanks again to the many volunteers and contributor's who made it all possible.

Cuts to CFIA will put consumers at risk
Dr. Leitch claims CFIA is merely undergoing a "modernization agenda." We, the public, might want to know these changes might include the replacement of onsite inspectors with video surveillance and the suspension of parts of the Consumer Protection program including food labels which protect consumers from fraudulent or inaccurate information.

CFB BORDEN - Over 700 Royal Canadian Air Cadets from all over the region converged on Based Borden Saturday for a chance to meet and compete in various athletic events as part of Air Cadet Activity Day.

ALLISTON - A concerned citizen is being credited for preventing a vehicle break-in last week in Alliston.

Police break up domestic dispute
An Essa Township man has been charged with assaulting a woman in a domestic dispute over the weekend. Police responded to the incident Saturday, May 12 but were unable to locate the man. He was located the next day and arrested.

Inheritance scam targets local seniors
SOUTH SIMCOE - In recent weeks, three local seniors were sent bogus letters promising a big inheritance payout from a long lost relative who died in the 2004 tsunami.

Province dismisses bigger police boards
ESSA/ADJALA-TOS/NEW TEC - The province says it's unwilling to make change legislation allowing the three municipalities under contract to the Nottawasaga OPP to each have a permanent seat on the police services board.

Honey fest to feature over 170 vendors
BEETON - The Beeton Honey and Garden Festival is right around the corner. With over 170 vendors attending, organizers say its the biggest yet. The event will be held Saturday, May 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Beeton's Main Street is shut down and thousands flock to the music, fun, food, shopping and events.

Thief clearly has no humanity
ALLISTON - The manager of the non-profit Alliston Habitat for Humanity store estimates a weekend break-in has cost the outlet $2,500 in damage and lost revenue.
